Water
Protection and restoration of water
Guided by the First Nations in Ontario Water Declaration, the Environment sector advocates for water in multiple ways. This includes clean drinking water and meaningful standards over drinking and waste water, First Nations’ self-determination over source water, and a healthy Great Lakes ecosystem. We continue to work towards legislation, policies and regulations on water, wastewater and source water that reflects First Nations’ priorities. We also help facilitate First Nations participation with the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement and Canada-Ontario Agreement by working to ensure First Nations’ rights and priorities are respected, and to increase First Nations capacity to be active participants and provide leadership.
